Emigrant, Montana. The cabin is five miles off the main road, up a scenic dirt road. We are 15 minutes from the general store and local restaurants/bars. It is a beautiful 45 minutes, often filled with wildlife, from the cabin to the entrance to Yellowstone National Park. (Please note that we require 4-wheel drive or all-wheel drive October - April.)

Paradise Valley is considered one of the most beautiful valleys in the world. Besides mountain gazing, you will find world-class fly fishing on the Yellowstone River, amazing food in both Emigrant and Livingston, two local hot springs, a handful of colorful bars, a surprisingly vibrant music scene, and tons of outdoor adventures. You can hop on a raft for a tour of the river, hike, bike, hunt, or take a horseback ride. DIY it or ask us about guided recommendations.  

Many of our cabin guests spend multiple days exploring Yellowstone National Park during their stay. You can access the entire park during the warm months. Our guests especially enjoy being able to leave the tourist hustle behind and enjoy quiet evenings under the stars here. In the winter, our nearby park entrance is the ONLY entrance open to motor vehicles, which makes for great wildlife watching in the Lamar Valley.

Our dirt road is well maintained with a side of bumps and washboards on occasion. Like most hilly places around here, it requires AWD or 4WD and winter tires during winter conditions (which can be anytime from Oct - May). Last minute bookings might be able to gamble on this with a weather forecast if they choose, but we do not offer refunds if you find yourself on the wrong side of the bet.

Our landowner association plows the roads, and they're often cleared well before the county and state roads! We take care of plowing the Backroad Cabin driveway with our snowplow.

We have ample parking, including room for boat trailers. Once you book, we will send you our welcome guide, which includes more details than you'll probably ever need.

Cozy! As for the weather, we've seen everything up here from warm, snowless months where we can hike every day to lots of snow and cross country skiing every day. It does vary: our cabin often has a little more snow than the valley floor.

In the fall of 2026, we will be installing a barrell sauna at the cabin, which we think will be the ultimate addition to winter here. Between that, the fireplace, games, and a good spot to curl up and watch movies, it has proven to be a popular winter retreat.

DOGS WELCOME:
We love furry friends! We supply couch cover, extra dog blankets, a dog bed, and bowls, and other amenities. $125 pet fee & pet agreement apply and allow for up to 3 dogs. No cats or other types of animals. There is a $200 fee for bringing an unannounced pet. Please ensure all pet waste is picked up. Do not allow dogs to roam the property unattended. Dogs should not be left alone in the cabin unless they are kenneled. (We can loan you a crate if needed.) For more than three, dogs, please reach out to us.

SMOKING:
No smoking or vaping on the property.

SECLUSION:
The cabin is tucked off a well-maintained scenic dirt road. Plowed regularly in the winter. All-wheel drive recommended year-round and required from October - April. The road in includes 4 miles of gravel road. We have a plow truck and keep the driveway plowed after any significant snow accumulation (weekdays, this will may be in the early morning or the evening due to our work schedules). Shoveling a walkway to the house will be completed the day of checkin, but shoveling is not provided mid-stay (if this is an issue, we can help arrange hiring this out, if needed). We do provide a shovel.

WORK & CREATIVE FRIENDLY:
Two workstations and high-speed internet. You'll also find creative idea prompts tucked into drawers.

LOCAL TIPS:
15 minutes to the nearest general store and restaurants. Yellowstone’s north entrance is 45 minutes away. Hiking, hot springs, and river and fishing adventures are nearby—ask us for our favorite hidden gems! Our quiet road offers excellent walking, running, and biking opportunities with incredible views of the mountains.

The fire pit and gas fireplace are ready for cozy evenings—please follow all safety instructions. No wood fires or fireworks.  

WILDLIFE:
The cabin has ample wildlife viewing opportunities. You may see deer, elk, fox, bear, marmots, ermin, coyotes, eagles, or even an elusive mountain lion. Once a year or so, we see a bighorn sheep. There may be insects and other creatures. (We recommend keeping doors closed & screens in place to keep insects out of the cabin. Please maintain a safe distance, do not feed animals, and keep all food secured. If recreating outdoors in this region of Montana, we recommend bringing bear spray. (We have a few cans in the cabin that you can borrow.)

Renter is responsible for any damage done to the property. The owners are not responsible for any accidents, injuries, or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The owners are not responsible for loss of personal belongings or valuables of the guest. By accepting a reservation, it is agreed that all guests are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premises.
